The Seventh Tradition
Al-Anon's Seventh Tradition holds that every group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. For the Every Daily Readers Group (EDRG), this tradition is the foundation of how we sustain our community. Members are invited to contribute voluntarily through Venmo or check, and all contributions go directly toward keeping our meeting running — covering our Zoom subscription and our group website. No contribution is required, and no one is turned away. Every dollar given is an act of service to the group we all share.
Once our prudent reserve of $250.00 is maintained, contributions are disbursed monthly according to our Group Conscience: 50% to the Al-Anon World Service Office (WSO), which produces the literature and resources that support members worldwide, and 50% to the Global Electronic Area (GEA), which supports online Al-Anon meetings like ours. In this way, our group's generosity reaches far beyond our own meeting, helping carry the message of recovery to others who need it.
Our Seventh Tradition is overseen by our group Treasurer, a trusted servant elected by the group for a one-year term. The Treasurer collects and transfers contributions, pays group expenses, and delivers a Treasurer's Report at each monthly Group Conscience meeting. This role requires at least one year in Al-Anon and a commitment to transparency and service.
